Let's not forget the Riviera Swimming and Diving Parents
who devoted their time to officiate at swim meets, transport swimmers,
plan award banquets, and so much more! They took a true interest in not
only their own children, but the entire Riviera Swimming & Diving
Team. You were all a tremendous help to Johnny and the team and
played an important role during Johnny's Life at Riviera!!! THANK YOU!!

A Special Thanks to Tom Haver for all the
photographs he took over the years of the Riviera Team. Tom's pictures have brought back many memories to all of us, as
well as provided us with much enjoyment over the years!!!

| The top picture was taken in September 2000 when
Tom and Betty were in Lafayette, IN (Purdue Univ.) with
daughter Nancy from Amherst, MA. to attend a wedding. Since
Tom lives in California, and his California friends don't
recognize him in a suit, he had to explain that the
picture was taken in Indiana where people dress like this for
church! Tom still has a wonderful sense of humor!!! He retired
in 1975 and moved to California in 1976. ..carrying out
the family swimming tradition..."my father & I &
now my grandson Mark swam the 1500 in H.S. & U.C.
Davis". Tom and his family are all in good health and
active. From May to October he swims about 1000 yards a day,
4-5 days a week.

My father worked for the A.A.U. for many years after I quit swimming
and was still working to establish the archives in Indianapolis right up
to the time of his death, January 1, 1988. My mother lives in Indianapolis
and is still quite active at 83. She bowls, plays golf, is a member of at
least 3 bridge groups, and (believe it or not) does water aerobics. In her
spare time she loves to travel and is active in her church. We often take
her with us on trips in the motor home to visit the kids. Debbie

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVA AND E
BERGLUND FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO RIVI, THE SWIMMERS, JOHNNY, THE
WATER SHOWS, SWIM MEETS AND JUST ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE THAT NEEDED
ATTENTION!!!!
Update: On June 25th
2002, E (Ewald) Berglund passed away.
Johnny's Swimmers will always have fond
memories of E, as he played a very important role in 'all' our
lives. I will always remember him as our "official starter", with
one hand pointing a gun towards the ceiling as we anticipated his
every movement. E gave so much of himself to all us swimmers.....his
time, his enthusiasm, his support and interest in the Riviera Swim
Team...not to mention his participation in our many water shows. E
was a true friend to my father. I will remember E with utmost
respect and thanks for giving so much of himself to all us kids at
Riviera. |

Eva & Ewald "E" Berglund

E (Ewald) Berglund
After retirement, E spent many a day on the golf course and his goal
was to shoot his age. When weather did not
cooperate, he liked to work crosswords and occasionally would still
paint. He always remembered fondly his days as a starter at swim meets. He
said he was pretty good with the starter's gun! On June 25th 2002, E
passed away. However, he will 'always' live in our memories.

EVA BERGLUND
Eva is 84 and still working at Riviera in the office. She began while
Kent and Carol were swimming by helping with the swim team and never left.
She's been there about 47 years now. When she is not working, she loves
going to the symphony, is active in VASA ( a Swedish group) or
participating in life. Her love is traveling. She goes back to Sweden
every two or three years to visit family and friends. She and Carol try to
take a trip together every summer.
